NATALIE KNIGHT ART COLLECTION

For The Appreciation of Art

This collection of contemporary South African art features works personally collected by Natalie Knight over more than six decades. Each artwork reflects long-term engagement with South Africa’s contemporary art scene and the artists who shaped it.

Natalie Knight began collecting contemporary art while running the Natalie Knight Gallery in Johannesburg, founded in 1981. Through the gallery, travel, and ongoing research, she worked closely with artists across painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. Many works in this collection were acquired at key moments in the artists’ careers.

The collection represents a wide range of artistic approaches, including figurative, expressionist, and socially engaged practices. These works respond to South Africa’s cultural history and changing social landscape. Several artists featured here are represented in museum, academic, and established private collections.

All artworks on this page form part of Natalie Knight’s private collection. They were selected for artistic strength, historical value, and authenticity. This collection grew through direct engagement, not market trends.

This selection offers collectors access to museum-quality contemporary South African art with clear provenance and long-term care. Each work stands on its own while contributing to a broader narrative of South Africa’s contemporary visual culture.
